Ecomedia, nieuwe kansen voor duurzaamheidseducatie

Op 2 februari 2012 vindt Ecomedia plaats, een bijeenkomst gericht op het ontdekken en beoordelen van nieuwe ontwikkelingen en technologieën op het gebied van duurzaamheidseducatie.
Ecomedia is bedoeld voor beleidmakers, medewerkers uit de NME sector en onderwijsprofessionals.
Ecomedia wordt georganiseerd door Creative Learning Lab van Waag Society, in samenwerking met Programma NME, Ministerie EL&I en IVN. Creative Learning Lab onderzoekt nieuwe toepassingen van technologie voor het onderwijs. Programma NME heeft de afgelopen jaren een aantal pilots uitgevoerd waarin het gebruik van nieuwe media in relatie tot duurzaamheid centraal stond. Deze ervaringen willen zij nu delen met een groter publiek.
Tijdens Ecomedia krijgt u de kans om kennis te maken met innovatieve onderwijsprojecten en toepassingen van nieuwe media. Ook gaan we in gesprek over de meerwaarde hiervan voor duurzaamheidseducatie. Bent u op zoek naar nieuwe mogelijkheden om duurzaamheidseducatie te verrijken? Neem dan deel aan deze inspirerende dag!

This Ellentriek is about textile, electronics and wireless interaction. We will focus on soft sensors made with textile and on how you can communicate the results of these sensors to an Arduino and/or computer. This data transfer will be wireless, with xbees.
Ellentriek is a series of workshops, often collaborative, where artists can come and work together on their own artistic electronics projects, made with open hardware.
Naomi Kerkhove and her fabulous miniature worlds with needle and wire is a special guest of this session, with her ‘Valies’ project, which premiers in Vooruit in autumn. She will work on the sensor part of her performance during the workshop.

During the Pattern+Pleasure festival of STEIM the workshop “Enactive Spaces” will be taking place in the Frascati theater in the heart of Amsterdam.
“The rooms and spaces we inhabit are often just an ambient backdrop for our daily activities. How can we step into a dialogue with our environments and make their forms and patterns communicate? How would these spaces behave? In this workshop we will collaboratively explore the potential of the spaces at Frascati theater as a reactive environment with an intelligence of its own. The result of our efforts will be the reinterpretation of the space into a large-scale interactive installation utilizing sound, touch, movement, and light.”
During this 6 hour long workshop, we will transform three sites in Frascati into enactive spaces that react to the presence of humans and changes in the environment, utilising the Sense/Stage technology.

It will be part of the Translife – International Triennial of New Media Art in Beijing in the exhibition Sensorium of the Extraordinary.

One on Saturday, July 9th, at Generale Parmentier (metro station voltaire) in Paris (more details will follow).

In the afternoon of Monday 11, we will also be hosting a presentation and workshop about livecoding, during the conference.
My friend Mariagiovanna Nuzzi invited me to collaborate on a sound piece about Tinnitus.
It’s a half hour piece, which will be broadcast on a (very) local radio at the Jan van Eyk academy in Maastricht, on Saturday, May 28, at 7pm.
The piece is a first exploration into the sound world of people with hearing disorders. The sound design in this piece is based on an interview with someone experiencing Tinnitus, describing the sound to me and comparing it to the synthesized sound that I have created.

JVER
is a 48 hour local radio broadcast of the Jan van Eyck Academie during
kunstour.
Its programme will be structured through 4 channels of live transmissions,
field recordings of the JVE, existing sound archives and live broadcasts.
It primarily aims to document and broadcast the activities and interaction
of the people and the function of the institutional/social space and it¹s
physical limits. This will be transmitted via 15 radios allocated within the

Between May 11 and 20, I’ll be working at STEIM with a number of excellent SuperCollider developers:
Jeff Carey, Alberto de Campo, Hannes Hoelzl, Till Bovermann, Wouter Snoei, Miguel Negrao, Robert van Heumen, and Bjornar Habbestadt,
on the Modality project.
The project will be launched at the monthly SuperCollider meeting at STEIM.
During the first days of the residency, there will be presentations and discussions between ourselves. These presentations can be attended by others interested as well. The presentations will roughly be between 10am and 4pm, with some lunch break in between.
Additionally, on May 12, we are presenting ourselves informally, during the OpenStudio tour that is happening around Amsterdam.
JND will be shown at the Elektra festival in Montreal, QC, Canada, between Thursday May 5 and Saturday May 7.
